Target group
This course is designed for adult educators, librarians, NGO staff, civic educators, community workers, and trainers who want to help adults navigate misinformation and build stronger critical thinking skills in an increasingly digital society.
Course objective
This course strengthens educators’ capacity to develop media literacy and critical thinking among adult learners. Participants will explore misinformation, digital manipulation, AI-generated content, and practical methods for helping adults evaluate information critically and make informed, confident decisions in today’s fast-changing digital society.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Identify misinformation techniques;
- Explain algorithms and digital echo chambers;
- Teach critical thinking for media use;
- Guide adults through polarising or emotionally loaded content.

Day 1
Fake News and Manipulation
• Spot-the-fact versus opinion activity.
• Discussion of common manipulation techniques.
• Group analysis of headlines and emotional framing.
Day 2
Algorithms and Information Bubbles
• Simple explanation of how recommendation systems work.
• Activity showing how different feeds shape different views.
• Reflection on personal media habits.
Day 3
Emotional Persuasion and Propaganda
• Case study on emotionally charged content.
• Group discussion on fear, anger, and persuasion.
• Practice identifying rhetorical tricks.
Day 4
AI-Generated Content and Source Checking
• Comparison of authentic and synthetic content.
• Source verification exercise.
• Checklist-building for critical reading.
Day 5
Workshop Design and Transfer to Local Contexts
• Design of a short media literacy session.
• Peer review of materials and methods.
• Planning for adaptation in local adult education work.
